Pinguicula esseriana ‘Giant’ is a standout form of this classic Mexican butterwort, known for growing significantly larger than typical esseriana clones. Native to the highlands of San Luis Potosí, it retains the tight, pinecone-like rosette the species is loved for.

Care Instructions

  • Light: Partial to full sun, or grow light equivalent
  • Potting medium: Mexican Pinguicula soil mix, or coarse sand and perlite
  • Feeding: Bugs, dried bloodworms, fish food, or diluted foliar fertilizer (e.g. Maxsea) every 2–3 weeks
  • Water: Keep soil consistently damp with low-mineral water (rain or distilled)
  • Humidity: 50–80%
  • Temperature: 55–90°F
  • Dormancy: None, though leaves may shrink slightly in winter while remaining carnivorous
